The Center for One Health Education Advocacy Research and Training (COHEART), KVASU, Pookode, Wayanad in association with Department of VPH isorganizing a series of awareness and capacity building programme on “Zoonoses and One Health” in Kerala. On the commemoration of World Zoonoses Day, the programme flagged off at Govt. Arts and Science College Kozhinjampara, Palakkad. Session on One Health and control of Zoonoses were handled by Dr. Preethi Unnithan and Dr. Pratheesh PT, Senior Research officer’s of COHEART. The programme was inaugurated by Shri. Rajesh C, Principal and was presided by Shri. Gopakumar G., Co-ordinator of extension activities of the College. The programme was attended by more than 200 students, faculty and farmers.More than a dozen different types of zoonotic diseases are prevalent in Kerala State and Kyasanur Forest disease and Kala Azar are the recent additions to thislist.
The center envisages in conducting series of awareness class on Zoonotic diseases like KFD, Leptospirosis and delivering success stories of One Health concept. The activities also includes preventing water borne disease among tribal habitation in Muttil panchayat, conducting quiz programmes, sensitizing hotel owners on food borne zoonoses etc. Another programme had been convened at Vinayaka Nursing College Auditorium on 7th July 2015 in which nursing faculty, doctors and students of Vinayaka College of Nursing, Assumption School of Nursing and related institutions participated.
